Mark de Smedt is Adecco’s regional head of Northern Europe, which in July 2017 expanded to include Germany, Austria and Switzerland. De Smedt has been a member of the company’s executive committee since January 2014 and served as Adecco’s chief HR officer from January 2014 until February 2016. He joined Adecco in 2009 as country manager for Belgium & Luxembourg; previously, he was a founder of professional staffing specialist XPE Group, acquired by Adecco. Prior to this, he was responsible for Adecco’s Benelux operations between 2002 and 2007. Before joining the staffing industry, de Smedt held various executive positions at Wang, Apple, Citibank and Scoot in France, Spain and Belgium.

Bernard Zen-Ruffinen is president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, for Korn Ferry, which he joined in 2009. From 2000 to 2009, he was the Swiss managing partner for Heidrick & Struggles and European head of the board and CEO practice. Previously, he served as president and CEO of DHL/ Danzas Latin America, a company belonging to Deutsche Post World Net group. In the 1990s, he was a founding member of Precious Woods and more recently was a founder of Monarca Coffee Wood, two companies dedicated to counteracting the effect of deforestation and global warming. Zen-Ruffinen is the 2013 recipient of the AESC European Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Executive Search Profession.

Albert Ellis is the CEO of Harvey Nash Group, a London-based information technology staffing and services firm. Originally appointed to the board in 2000 as CFO, he became CEO in 2005. Twelve years after being at the helm, the company has expanded its footprint globally with revenue of £784.3 million. Ellis joined Harvey Nash in 1998 from Hays plc. Before that, he worked in the accounting and auditing profession after qualifying as a chartered accountant. He is on the board of Asia House and is an advisor at London City University’s Cass Business School for its information leadership course.

Hans Ploos van Amstel joined Adecco Group as CFO in September 2015. He started his career in finance at Procter & Gamble in the Netherlands in 1989. Between 1992 and 2003, he held positions of increasing responsibility in P&G across Saudi Arabia, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. In 2003, he joined Levi Strauss & Co. in Belgium as VP, finance and operation, Europe, and moved to the US as global CFO in 2005. In his most recent position, van Amstel was CFO of COFRA Group from 2009 to 2013, before acting as co-CEO of C&A Europe for a transition period until 2015.

Franz-Josef Schürmann is Adecco’s chief sales and innovation officer, a position he assumed in July 2017. Prior to that, he led Adecco’s Germany, Austria, Switzerland region since January 2016. He started his career at Accenture in 1996. As a member of the German and European leadership teams of Accenture, in 2008 he was named global client partner for several DAX 30 companies. From 2010 to 2015, Schürmann was country head of Germany for Infosys Ltd. He is a board member for AmCham, the American Chamber of Commerce, Germany; and a member of the Senate of Acatech, the national academy of science and engineering, Germany. Schürmann holds a master of science in business administration and agricultural economics from Purdue University in the US, where he studied as a Fulbright scholar.

Stefan Kölbl is chairman of German firm DEKRA SE, which includes DEKRA Personnel, the temporary work and training and education division of the company that posted revenue of €520.9 million in 2016. Kölbl joined DEKRA in 2000 after working as a management consultant. He became chairman in 2010. Kölbl was appointed managing director of the economically ailing DEKRA Akademie in 2003. Within two years, Kölbl succeeded in turning around what is today’s largest private training service provider in Germany. He was then assigned to DEKRA’s automotive services unit in 2006.

Jan Arie van Barneveld has been CEO of Brunel International since 2000. Van Barneveld started his career as a senior manager at Coopers & Lybrand, which merged with Price Waterhouse in 1998 to form PwC. He then held successive management positions at companies in Belgium and the Netherlands. His most recent position before moving to Brunel International was director of Avero Life & Mortgages, which is part of the Achmea Insurance Group.

Andreu Cruañas was appointed president of ASEMPLEO, the association of private employment agencies in Spain, in 2013. Cruañas represents the association in the World Employment Confederation. He is a member of the executive committee of Confederation of Employers and Industries of Spain, also known as CEOE, and has been a board member of CEOE and the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises since 2013.

Cruañas is also a general council member of the Spanish Employment System (Ministry of Employment and Social Security) and the Central Executive Committee of the Public Employment Service of Spain. In his career, Cruañas has alternated between roles in the public and private sector and was formerly the Secretary of Labour and Employment and Director General of Employment of the Catalan Government.

Kevin Barrow is a partner with law firm Osborne Clarke. Since 1990, he has advised staffing companies on all types of legal work including commercial deals, international joint ventures and M&A. His multicountry team works for more than 100 hirers and suppliers on market-leading UK, EU and international flexible workforce — MSP, RPO and VMS — projects, regulation of digital recruitment and online exchanges, tax planning relating to flexible workforces and worker misclassification and coemployment class actions. Barrow has led a campaign to change the regulatory regime affecting online exchanges, and in the last three years has rolled out staffing/MSP deals in 40 countries.

Founder and CEO

Étienne Colella is CEO of PIXID, a VMS provider headquartered in France, which he founded in 2004. The firm offers an SAAS application compliant with the French regulation for providing and using temporary staff. In 2015, private equity fund Keensight Capital took a majority stake in the company to help it become a leading VMS in the European market. PIXID bought Internet Corp. in January 2017 to start deploying its services to the UK market. Previously, Colella spent 14 years in the IT industry in various senior positions. Colella graduated from ESSEC Business School in Paris.
